Dublin Zoo - Gorilla House
For the Gorilla House in Dublin Zoo we installed two types of Patina™ luminaires.
We specified the ASDN fitting with 4x55w PL-L lamps in the section of the building that the Gorillas are housed. This is obviously an area of restricted access where the luminaire must be installed between the ceiling and a protective wire ‘fence’ running parallel to the ceiling, about 600mm below it. The luminaire here needed to....
| • Produce instant white light. |
| • Have a very high light output ratio. This is to achieve the desired average lux and uniformity levels while using as few luminaires as possible, this is to reduce future maintenance issues in this restricted area. |
| • Maintain a high lumen output over time. |
| • Contain long life lamps. |
| • Be manufactured with high quality materials and not contain any glass should the Gorillas manage to reach them by pointing an object though the protective fencing. |
| • Have a flexible manufacturing process. For a small number of luminaires Dublin Zoo required bespoke changes to the ASDN luminaire to allow for the marriage of the luminaire and a special bracket being specifically manufactured which will assist with future maintenance. |

The ASDN proved to be an ideal luminaire choice as it proved to have the solution to all of the above requirements.
We used the PLOR fitting with a 1x54w T5 lamp for the remainder of the Gorilla House. This fitting was the ideal choice because...
